Once again, I apologize for my poor photography skills. These beautiful roses are variegated in red, pink, and white. And I’m sorry that you can’t smell them either. Use your imagination…they look and smell magnifique.
If someone had asked me yesterday what I thought about variegated roses, being a purist, I probably would have wrinkled my nose. And, I honestly had never heard of them before. But I love them – maybe because they’re different and new. Or maybe just because they’re from my husband and if he had brought me a bunch of wildflowers from the woods or lilacs from the yard, I would have loved them, too. Just as much. But everything that grows outside is dead now, so he really had no choice but to go to the store if he wanted to bring me flowers. Which he did. 🙂
And from my roses, I’ll take you to a discussion of roses from Le Petit Prince, one of my favorite books of all time, and it’s French, bien sûr!
People where you live,” the little prince said, “grow five thousand roses in one garden… yet they don’t find what they’re looking for…
They don’t find it,” I answered.
And yet what they’re looking for could be found in a single rose…”
Of course,” I answered.
And the little prince added, “But eyes are blind. You have to look with the heart.
From The Little Prince, by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
Remember to look with your heart. There are so many places to give and receive love. And not just on February 14, but every day.
Happy Valentine’s Day to you!
