This recipe is not French, however, the cake is délicieux.  This is an old standby if you need to whip something up at the last minute.  All of the ingredients are standard pantry baking items and it is so quick to mix.  Since we know that French Women Don’t Get Fat, it is safe to make this delicious-for-adults yet kid-friendly dessert, so long as we channel our inner French woman prior to eating.  Bon appétit!

In the oven, baking, baking…

Voilá!  Finished.  Best served while still slightly warm with a dollop of fresh, whipped cream or Cool Whip if you prefer.

Ingredients

2 Cups Sugar

5 Eggs

1/2 Cup Vegetable Oil

3/4 Cup Sour Cream

1 teaspoon Vanilla

1 1/3 Cups Flour

1/2 Cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder (I like to use the Special Dark)

1 1/2 Cups Semisweet Chocolate Chips

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350° and grease a 9×13 pan.

In a large bowl, whisk the sugar, eggs, oil, sour cream and vanilla until well blended.  In a smaller bowl, combine the flour and cocoa powder with a fork until well mixed.  Pour the flour mixture into the egg mixture and stir until just moistened.  Do not over-mix.  Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth out.  Sprinkle with chocolate chips.

Bake for 35 minutes until sides pull away from pan and/or toothpick comes out clean.  (Be careful not to insert toothpick directly into a melted chocolate chip or it will never look “done”.)  Enjoy!
